Resumé/Bio

Christine N. Corbin is a Virginia Auctioneer and Certified Appraiser of Estates and Antiques, beginning her career as a retail merchandiser. She has a background in Marketing and Economics. She entered the auction world in 1988 at Shields' Auction and Realty Group, under the directorship of George Shields of Danville, Virginia, (who was VAA President in 1969),  followed by 17 years a with the Motley's Group, in Richmond (consisting of tenure as auction director and senior appraiser).

Christine is enthusiastic about recycling personal property and strongly promotes decorative arts auctions. Her expertise is in creating auction sales with catalogs, including pre-auction estimates, and a progressive order-of-sale. She believes in live and interactive auctions (including the use of online auction services, which can thus raise the caliber of estate auctions in a gallery setting, and draw an international audience).

Christine is an  Independent Contractor, Certified to Appraise Personal Property through the International Society of Appraisers, Licensed as an Auctioneer in the State of Virginia. She sits on The Appraisal Foundation Advisory Council (TAFAC) in Washington, DC. This council develops the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), a set of standards to which all Professional Appraisers nationally must adhere, in line with an auctioneer's code of ethics and procedures..

Christine is also the Vice President of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA)and works with the National Auctioneers Association to promote members education and specialty knowledge in the parallel appraisal and auction worlds. She has been invited to present seminars for the Virginia and National Auctioneers Associations and International Society of Appraisers. Christine maintains strict ethical and professional standards and procedures, whether selling, appraising, consulting for clients or interacting with the public and professional world as a whole.
